About Ronnie
Ronnie Wade was born in Wetzel County, West Virginia. Even though his family moved away for his father’s work, Wetzel County was always home. He spent his summers here with his grandparents, learning the value of family, hard work, and looking out for your neighbors.
Ronnie served 22 years on active duty in the U.S. Navy. He started out as a nuclear welder, doing critical repair work on nuclear submarines where safety, attention to detail, and doing the job right mattered every single day.
Later in his career, Ronnie became a Trident submarine superintendent, helping manage major maintenance projects and multi-million-dollar budgets. As the only Chief Petty Officer serving as Maintenance Coordinator for the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) and its carrier task force, he was responsible for keeping the ship and task force ready to go, supervising 140 sailors and coordinating support across 22 ships. He also served as a qualified Navy welding instructor and spent three years as a lead instructor, training sailors and holding them to the highest standards.
Ronnie’s Navy service took him around the world, including Europe, Southeast Asia, and the Persian Gulf, but it also taught him the importance of teamwork, accountability, and stepping up when others are counting on you.
After retiring from the Navy, Ronnie chose to come home to Wetzel County. He and his wife of 37 years raised their family here, and he’s a proud father and grandfather. Ronnie believes our schools should be safe, run responsibly, and focused on giving students real opportunities—whether that’s college, career training, or the skilled trades.
Ronnie is running for the Wetzel County Board of Education to give back to the community that raised him and to make sure our schools stay accountable, transparent, and focused on what matters most: our kids.

How the Wetzel County Board of Education Election Works![]()
A lot of people ask how the Board of Education election actually works.
It’s a little different from most other elections, so I want to explain it clearly.
First, the Wetzel County Board of Education has five members.![]()
Each member serves a four-year term, and the terms are staggered so all five seats are not up for election at the same time. Usually two or three seats are on the ballot in a given election year.![]()
Another important rule involves magisterial districts. Wetzel County has three districts.![]()
By law, no more than two Board of Education members can live in the same district at the same time. Right now there are 2 seats not up for election out district 1 and 3, so only 1 candidate from district 1 and 1 candidate for district 3 can be elected for the board. ‘This rule helps make sure the whole county has representation.![]()
Even though there are districts, the election itself is county-wide.
That means every voter in Wetzel County can vote for every seat that is up for election, no matter where the candidates live.![]()
The Board of Education election is also non-partisan, which means candidates do not run as Democrats or Republicans. Their names appear on the ballot without a party label.![]()
Another thing that makes this election different is that it is decided in the primary election in May, not the November general election.![]()
When there are three seats open, each voter can vote for up to three candidates.![]()
Example of How the Numbers Work
In 2022 Wetzel County primary election, about 2,259 people voted.
But when you look at the results for the Board of Education race, you will see around 3,600 total votes counted for the candidates.
The reason for that is simple.
Voters are allowed to vote for up to three candidates when there are three seats open.
But voters do not have to vote for all three.
They can vote for one, two, or three candidates.
So even though 2,259 people voted, many of them selected more than one candidate.
That is why the total number of votes counted for the candidates can be much higher than the number of voters.![]()
But an important thing people should know is you do not have to vote for three.
I’d prefer you only vote for me… but the ballot does give you other options.![]()
The candidates with the highest number of votes win the seats, but the district rule still applies. If two candidates from the same district finish high in the vote, but that would put more than two members from that district on the board, then the candidate with fewer votes from that district cannot take the seat.![]()
The goal of this system is to make sure the board represents the entire county, not just one area
.
That’s how the Wetzel County Board of Education election works, and it’s important for voters to understand how their vote helps shape the future of our schools.![]()

OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM RONNIE WADE CANDIDATE FOR WETZEL COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION. ![]()
Last Night I was at the Board of Education meeting when this mother spoke, and I’ve been thinking about it ever since. What she described about her 8-year-old daughter getting so upset on the school bus that she was hyperventilating and got sick—that should concern every parent in this county.
Let me be clear about something: every child deserves to feel safe on that bus. Period.
I also understand we are short on bus drivers. But being short-staffed can’t be an excuse for ignoring repeated complaints. If there have been multiple incidents, they need to be taken seriously and addressed the right way. I’m not here to attack anyone without all the facts. But I am here to say this—parents deserve to be heard, and kids deserve to be protected.
I would encourage the school system to look into this situation thoroughly and communicate clearly with the family involved.![]()
And to parents—if your child is having issues on a bus, speak up. You have that right.
We can do better than this, and we should.![]()
